Making Stuff
Hi, all. Really looking forward to seeing a lot of you again, and to meeting those I don’t already know. In keeping with my focus on making stuff, I am happy to bring various things for people to play / experiment with. These could include (but are not limited to) some or all of the following:
- Arduinos and Lilypads plus various kinds of electronic sensors
- DIY 3D printers like Makerbots
- LEGO Mindstorms
- Craft Robo CNC paper cutters

Hi Bill. I’m particularly interested in the possibilities of the Makerbot and Craft Robo. To play with the CR can I just bring along a few images of stencils I’ve captured and then recreate them? Or other similar images? Here’s one example of what I’m talking about: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tmkelly/4053321333/sizes/o/in/photostream/.

Yes, you can easily cut that image on the Craft Robo, either as a construction paper stencil or as a vinyl sticker. Basically, once you have digitized an image, you have to use Adobe Illustrator to create the cutlines and then the cutting is done from an Illustrator plug-in. I will bring a laptop with Illustrator if you don’t have the software; if you do, you can create the cutlines before the workshop. (You might also be able to do all the vector work in Inkscape and import into Illustrator, but I haven’t tried this yet). Bill.
