THURSDAY APRIL 29

7:30 – Breakfast

8:30-9:30 – Unconference planning session (everybody)

…Together, we’ll plan our day, including:
-the activities (including but not limited to those below) we’ll engage in, where, when, etc.
-the questions we will answer, on the Web site, as we engage in the activities
-the on-camera question (see below)

9:30-12:30 – Unconference I
…In small groups, we will be building/using, and being playful, with technologies in history. Available activities will include the following (and whatever else emerges during our 8:30-9:30 planning session):
-John and Ruth – A Great Canadian Mystery
-Shawn (Graham) – The History Nethernet
-Shawn (Graham) – Civilization Mod
-Devon – Makerbots and History
-Jeremiah – A tour of and encounter with/of Serious Games for history
-Rob – Barely Games for History
-Bill – Arduinos (and wearable computing?)
-Bill – History Mindstorms
-Bill – Craft Robo paper cutters and history
-Jeremiah – Card games and history
-Bethany – Llull’s game and glass beads

Unconferencing rules:
1. the day will be broken up into four time slots: i. 9:30-11; ii. 11-12:30; iii. 1:30-3; iv. 3-4:30
2. an activity (see list above) will be slotted into a time slot, though an activity might be offered more than once
3. the group that assembles for an activity at a given time slot must respond to a “Playing with History” question (we’ll come up with these from 8:30 to 9:30, but one might be: “What factors are present when play and learning history are most compatible?”), and each group’s response must be posted at playingwithhistory.com at the end of their time slot
4. you can be in no more than two time slots with another participant (i.e. let’s mix it up)
5. at some point during the day, each participant must visit the PlayingwithHistory videography suite and go on camera; answers will be posted to the Playingwith blog.

8:30-12:30 – Papers I
…We will review the draft papers to be published in the edited volume. It is expected that all participants will have read all papers. The first reviewer will present the paper that s/he has reviewed (this does not have to have to be in writing) for 10 minutes, highlighting the key arguments, and pointing out changes that might be considered; 20 minutes of discussion will follow, in which the author, and the other participants, can discuss the paper and the reviewer’s comments. Order TBD.

12:30-1:30 – Lunch


1:30-5 – Papers II (same as above)

5:30 and on – Departure
